I define therapy as an opportunity to engage in self-reflection and learn how to overcome personal and relational struggles by developing long-term tools. Approaching therapy as a collaborative relationship, I seek to guide individuals through their journey of self-awareness and self-discovery.
My approach is multidisciplinary in nature, meaning that it is guided by my client’s needs, goals and strengths. I employ a variety of therapeutic treatment modalities to meet these with some being Dialectical Behavioral, Client-centered and Solution-Focused Therapies. My method to treatment is rooted in empathy, human rights, and a strengths-based approach. I understand how each person participates in a variety of communities that impact how they feel, behave, make decisions, and cope with difficulties. I find it essential to learn about those communities and the role individuals play in them. In treatment, the client and I will identify how he/she/they manages difficult or challenging life circumstances, and work to change or enhance these strategies. Specifically, I collaborate with clients to enhance self-awareness and self-compassion; develop and maintain healthy relationships; communicate well in different situations; and make decisions that improve their own health and well-being and allow them to contribute effectively to their communities.
I have experience working with diverse individuals managing adjustment issues, relationships, anxiety, depression, vocational stress and grief. In addition, I have been influenced by personal experiences such as being bi-cultural, bi-lingual, an immigrant, a spouse, mother, growing up in a blended family, and experiencing the death of close family members.
